The Story so far ...cont
Alright. This bit is unashamedly Christian. It is, after all, our faith that leads us to action. All names have been changed to protect the innocent.
In June 2006 the pastor’s son, Pau, met three little children on their own in the centre of the city. They said their father was sick and took Pau to see him. He was a Muslim and was very sick. Pau offered to take him home. Later the father became much worse and the pastor took him to the hospital. Hospital treatment needs to be paid for and patients need to be fed by family. No food in hospital! The little Pentecostal church of, very poor Christians, took it upon themselves to pay for the treatment and feed this man in hospital whilst the pastor and his wife cared for the children. The children’s father was converted and wrote a letter saying that if he should die he wanted his children brought up by these Christians. The doctors in the hospital were amazed. They asked Pau “Why are you doing this? They aren’t family, they’re not your tribe and they’re not even your religion”. His reply was, “Because of Jesus”. The Buddhist doctors said they needed to look into Christianity! The father died. He had TB. If he had been able to afford medical treatment in the early stages, he would have survived. The children are now part of the pastor’s ever growing family. At the last count there were 8 adults and 15 children living in what has become known as ”Grace Hostel”, and we have had to rent another apartment to accommodate them all. We have just purchased a third apartment with money given by Christians from all over the UK.
Jesus said, “The poor you have with you always”. And this is true. There are still children begging on the streets of Yangon, but there are some who are loved and housed and fed now who probably would have been dead or worse if they hadn’t been found by Pau, God’s under -shepherd and ultimately by the Good Shepherd Himself..
